Horten

The Horten H IX V3 "Bat-Wing Ship" is another step closer to moving to the Mary Baker Engen Restoration Hangar at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. Pictured here: shop Foreman Rob Mawhinney conducts the symphony as forklift pilots Amelia Kile, Carl Schuettler, Anthony Wallace, and Carl Bobrow gradually lower the jet onto the stand. Aviation Observations

Subject: Fwd: Aviation Observations -    A good simulator check ride is like a successful surgery on a dead body. -    Asking a pilot what he thinks about the FAA is like asking a tree what it thinks about dogs. -    An airline pilot is a confused soul who talks about women when flying, and about flying when he's with a woman. -    The only thing worse than a captain who never flew as a copilot, is a copilot who once was a captain. -    Experience is gained through making mistakes.  Mistakes are caused by a lack of experience -    Hand-flying an ILS in a gusty crosswind is easier than adjusting the shower controls in a layover hotel. -    A smooth touchdown in a simulator is as exciting as kissing your sister. -    Most airline crew food tastes like warmed-over chicken because that's what it is. -    Everything is accomplished t...

DC3 Canadian Recovery in Antarctica

The crazy Canadians do it again! Subject:   [bfc-news] DC3 Canadian Recovery in Antarctica This flim is the story related to the crash and recovery of a DC-3 that had crashed in Antarctica during the 2012-13 winter.  A "recovery crew", I think of 12 people were assembled, along with ALL of the "stuff" necessary to repair the badly broken airplane - owned and operated by a Canadian "adventure company".  This video tells the story..........and, it is well worth the watching - especially if YOU are an AVIATOR!     Enjoy   The Antarctic film, its all about the airplane.   http://youtu.be/9ruArctYYbM

Some great footage.  These guys took a B17 ready to be scrapped, added machine guns to bring up the total to 19.  Took on 17 enemy Zero's suffered 187 bullet holes and 9 cannon shells.  Fought for 45 minutes until the Zero's ran short of fuel and had to return to their base.  Nice footage, The Flight of Old 666 So long ago....It is up to us to remind the Americans coming now to maturity, of this great bravery by these great guys.... Bravery was the creed by which they lived, and often suffered and died. click below: The Flight of Old 666 "

Fwd: Amazing declassified pix

Pix from Tinian Island as the B-29 "Enola Gay" was being loaded. Notice the "Top Secret" stamp on some of the photos. In the last few pix notice the CRUDE sheet metal work on the casing and fins of "Little Boy" - the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima....... Gives a little look into the other side of the engineering on the first atomic bombs, the mechanical and logistical work that it took to handle, store, transport, and load them.            Declassified Historical photographs.                      http://www.alternatewars.com/Bomb_Loading/Bomb_Guide.htm
