Taylorcraft Funding

Good Morning to All I am happy to announce that thanks to our generous members we have exceeded our goal of $8000.00 to rebuild our donated Taylorcraft airplane. Be assured that we will use every dollar wisely so that when we are finished with the refurbishment we will have a safe high quality aircraft at the lowest possible cost. Our treasurer will be setting up an account at the Crane Credit Union for the Taylorcraft funds. Once we receive a debt card and checks from the CU we can start ordering parts needed to complete the restoration. One of the first things purchased will be the new engine for $3500.00. There are a number of additional engine parts that will have to be purchased but until we mount the new engine on the aircraft we will not know what is needed. Richard  has cleaned up the firewall and the engine mount has been inspected and repainted so all is ready for mounting the engine, The second major item will be the purchase of the interior package. Update for 1/11/2021 on Taylorcraft

 Good Morning to Al Attached is an outline of where we stand on the refurb of the Taylorcraft and a short video of our progress. Read through my explanation and if there are any questions please let me know. The further we get into the project the more issues we have to resolve. Jerry Harkin President EAA 650 Good Morning to Everyone,   I wanted to give all the members an update on our progress with the restoration efforts on the Taylorcraft so that everyone is aware of what is going on with the project and the expenses associated with the restoration.   First of all, we received some bad news yesterday from Mike Wonder on the condition of the crank; it is bent beyond limits and must be scrapped. This increases the cost of the engine overhaul by roughly $3000.00 dollars. Mike is aware of another Continental 65-8 engine that could be purchased to replace the original engine at a cost of $3500.00. That engine...

Fwd: Saturday Meeting

 Good Morning to All Now that the holidays are behind us it is time to get back together to solve the worlds problems so we will reconvene this Saturday morning.  During the break Mike Wonder, John Hayes, and myself have been doing some work on the engine. The attached picture shows the casing has been split so the crankshaft has been removed and sent off for evaluation. In the mean time a lot of cleanup has taken place on the cylinders, pistons, rods and associated parts that came off the  block. There is still a lot of work to do the clean everything, repaint the parts and put it all back together. Mike expects it will be 2-3 weeks before he will know the condition of the crank. Let's hope it can be straightened so we don't have to buy an another crank. We will be doing more work on the wings at the clubhouse this Saturday so if you stop by, join in on the fun of rebuilding a 1946 Taylorcraft. See everyone Saturday, I will bring the donuts. Annual Officer vote meeting

Saturday December 5th Meeting at the Clubhouse The annual officer vote was held, and many people have stepped up.  See our website https://eaa650.org for the minutes. Pilots also note as per Dr Pugh Dr. Pugh noted the new ASOS frequency is 134.525 Mhz.  BMG runway lighting is in poor condition and some wiring needs replaced. All pilots need to check the NOTAMs if flying after dark. The OOM VOR, DME, and TACAN will apparently remain in service until FY 2026, when the MON is finalized.

Good Morning Everyone Just a quick note to let everyone know that thanks to John Hayes, Mike Wonder, and Russ Goodwine we were able to get the wings off the T-Craft, get it on the trailer and bring it back to BMG so that we can begin the refurbing process. The fuselodge is temporaly in the hanger owned by Jim LeSeure and Russ Goodwine and the wings are in our clubhouse. Should have seen John and I carrying those wings into the house, they lare bigger than you think when they are inside our little house. Mike wil be starting work on the aircraft after our meeting tomorrow morning. I will have more information on the refurb process at our membership meeting. Thanks again to all, see you tomorrow.
