Slide it on the belly?

Jetstar pilots 'forgot to lower wheels' due to mobile phone Andrew Heasley April 19, 2012 Confused Jetstar pilots forgot to lower the wheels and had to abort a landing in Singapore just 150 metres above the ground, after the captain became distracted by his mobile phone, an investigation has found. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau report on the May 27, 2010 incident on Flight JQ57, from Darwin to Singapore, reconstructed a scene of cockpit chaos. The captain, of more than 13,000 hours flying experience, was distracted by incoming text messages on his phone, while the first officer, of more than 4000 hours experience, was probably fatigued, the report said. Advertisement: Story continues below The pair had lost their "situational awareness", leading to poor decision-making and hampered communications, investigators found. The problems aboard JQ57 began when the co-pilot, the first officer, switched off the autopilot on the 220-seat Airb...

motion induced disappearing

This is frightening! It works exactly like it says, and is one major reason people in cars can look right at you (when you're on a motorcycle or bicycle)---AND NOT SEE YOU. From a  former Naval Aviator: This is a great illustration of what we were taught about scanning outside the cockpit when I went through training back in the '50s. We were told to scan   the horizon for a short distance, stop momentarily, and repeat the   process. I can remember being told why this was   the most effective technique to locate other aircraft. It wasemphasized (repeatedly)  to NOT fix your gaze for more than a couple of   seconds on any single object. The instructors, some of whom were WWII veterans with years of experience, instructed us to continually "keep our eyes moving andour head on a swivel" because this was the best way to survive, not only in combat,...

Navy drones hunt for pirates

Navy drones hunt for pirates The U.S. Navy is deploying robot helicopters with sophisticated cameras and sensing software to spot pirate boats - even when they're in crowded sea lanes and coastal areas. Drones are becoming incredibly advanced.  Watch this display of work done at the University of Pennsylvania. http://www.tvkim.com/watch/1731/kims-picks-drone-helicopters-in-formation?utm_medium=nl&utm_source=notd&utm_content=2012-04-10-article&utm_campaign=end-f

University Develops Swarming Drones (With Video)

Subject: University Develops Swarming Drones (With Video) ( http://www.avweb.com ). University Develops Swarming Drones (With Video) February 10, 2012 By Glenn Pew, Contributing Editor, Video Editor ( http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/university_figure_eight_swarm_drone_206169-1.html ) A research team at the University of Pennsylvania has successfully demonstrated close formation work among large networked groups of autonomous vehicles, and the results are visually captivating. The SWARMS project ( http://www.swarms.org/ ) (Scalable sWarms of Autonomous Robots and Mobile Sensors) involves a team from the university's general robotics, automation, sensing and perception lab. Work there on autonomous multicopters has led to demonstrations of the vehicles performing obstacle navigation and precise maneuvering while flying in large formations and operating as a group of networked autonomous vehicles. In plain English, you'll want to watch all 16 of them autonom...

England, WWII - THE GERMAN

THE GERMAN I ncredible four minute footage of a desperate Spitfire vs. ME-109 dual. You feel like you are there! Amazing computer work blended in with real photography.  Notice the distance between aircraft when the firing begins - I'd say about 20 meters (yards) - biggest problem is not getting hit by wreckage flying past you. Also an interesting factual story that most of us did not know.   History is rarely 'over'. Now sit back and strap on your parachute harness ... it is the Summer of 1940 over the skies of England.   Listen to the perfect 'purr' of the Rolls Royce Merlin ... Watch this full screen. It's very well done.  [BTW, the Brit is the guy with the mustache.] Click on the link below: Sound ON.  The German
