Aircraft RE-registration

October 7, 2010 — According to the FAA, about one third of the approximately 357,000 aircraft registered in the United States have inaccurate records. To clean up what they say has become a database riddled with incorrect addresses, aircraft that have been destroyed, etc., the agency has made a decision to require all currently registered aircraft to be re-registered. Essentially they’re starting with an empty ledger, and will fill it out in the next three years. http://www.warbirds-eaa.org/news/2010%20-%2010_07%20-%20FAA%20Aircraft%20Re-Registration%20Begins%20Next%20Month.html#TopOfPage

The Last Flight by Ken Ballard

Image
1991 by Kent Ballard   Recently, there was a titanic air show at Genessee , New York . This "gathering of eagles" brought in WWII aircraft from all over the United States and Canada. Aircraft from all American military branches were there, along with combat fighters and bombers from the RAF, the Soviet Air Force, the Luftwaffe, and the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy. It was warbird heaven.   Try as I might, I couldn't adjust my schedule to attend. Feeling somewhat like the kid who didn't get picked for the team, I helped get our bomber tuned up, spit-shined, and polished. I was pretty dispirited when they left. I smiled and waved when they took off, never telling anyone how disappointed I felt. I watched until they flew out of sight, then quietly went home.   When our crew returned several days later, they brought with them a story that put my misery in its proper perspective. Just when you think that you have troubles, you...

Navy playing in the water with Helo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYExH8hpgXI&feature=player_embedded An official at NAS North Island in San Diego confirmed the authenticity of the video that shows two $33 million MH-60 Romeo helicopters flying over Lake Tahoe on Sept. 13. One of the helicopters appears to come dangerously close to the water before the pilot is able to regain altitude. US Navy officials from the Pentagon told NBC News this was not a training mission, but that the two helicopter crews were allegedly attempting to take photos of each other’s helicopters hovering just above the waters of Lake Tahoe with the mountains as a majestic backdrop when their photo op went horribly wrong.   Navy officials say the pilots had attempted to go into a routine "hover" but because of the altitude of Lake Tahoe and the weight of the aircraft, the chopper descended and partially submerged before both pilots increased power, pulled the choppers out of the water and averted ...

Big Boy's Toy

Big Boy's Toy This is one absolutely amazing remote controlled [RC] model airplane. Not only did they build its jet engines, but included a retractable landing gear, And built it into a fully scaled model of the SR-71 "Blackbird" that flies just like the real McCoy. This SR-71 model was built by an Engineer / RC enthusiast in Germany , and is certainly one awesome toy. Click here < http://www.youtube.com/watch_ popup?v=SDbQ5xvsrIU > to watch and listen to it Soar. And the landing is Amazing, too. I wonder how much that toy cost? But it would be worth every penny

Purdue Set To Take Delivery Of New Fleet Of Cirrus Aircraft Deal Will Be Finalized At AirVenture http://www.aero-news.net Purdue University's aviation technology program will provide its students with a new, more modern fleet when it takes delivery of a representative Cirrus aircraft at 1300 Thursday, July 29th at AirVenture. The media event at the Cirrus Pavilion at the EAA AirVenture Grounds in Oshkosh completes Purdue's $5.1 million purchase of 16 Cirrus aircraft that will be used to provide hands-on experience for students enrolled in the supervised flight instruction program. The Cirrus fleet replaces an older collection of Piper-built aircraft. "Purdue continues to push forward the use of modern aviation technology to the benefit of its students and mankind," said aviation technology department head Brent Bowen. Plane Driven

http://planedriven.com/main/ Plane Driven was conceptualized and founded by Trey Johnson after recognizing the benefits of a roadable aircraft.  Pilots who encounter inclement weather that prohibits continuous travel to their destination have desired a vehicle that could overcome this challenge. Over the past year the Plane Driven build team and engineers have worked on developing the unique design of the PD-1. The PD-1 is designed to perform as an aircraft first and a vehicle second.  By incorporating a movable and auxiliary drive pod, the plane maintains its original center of gravity.  During the transition, the wings rotate back along the side of the fuselage, the tail hinges and vehicle controls are quickly snapped into place. A kit is in design for the Glasair Sportsman.  Pilots who are interested can contact Plane Driven today to find out more information.
