Fwd: early aviation history

EARLY AMERICAN AVIATION HISTORY How many of you know that in 1910, mighty Martin Marietta got its start in an abandoned California church? That's where Glenn L. Martin with his amazing mother Minta Martin and their mechanic Roy Beal constructed a fragile biplane that Glenn taught himself to fly. It has often been told how Douglas Aircraft started operations in 1920 in a barbershop's backroom on L.A. 's Pico Boulevard .  Interestingly, the barber-shop is still operating. The Lockheed Company built the first of their famous Vegas' in 1927 inside a building currently used by Victory Cleaners at 1040 Sycamore in Hollywood . In 1922, Claude Ryan, a 24 year old military reserve pilot, was getting his hair cut in San Diego, when the barber mentioned t

Fwd: Space Shuttle Cockpit

Space Shuttle Cockpit - power on... We have now all seen on TV how the last Space Shuttle is now in Los Angeles. Here is one final picture of the cockpit with everything powered on for one last picture before the electronics and secret stuff were pulled out / removed. Additionally, the last commander ordered erased all the flight deck graffiti signed by all the crews over 25 missions. Too bad. Several photos display all the graffiti within the Shuttle. Fwd: Air Disasters : Gimli Glider (Full Episode)

Outstanding pilot airman-ship on what could have been a disastrous ending to Air Canada's Flight 143.   Well presented and rather long, but well worth the look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w5LqlTwbhs

Fwd: CTAF / Unicom Frequency Change Rochelle Municipal Airport

All, On January 17th 2013 at 1600Z which is 10:00 am local.  We will be switching the CTAF/Unicom Frequency to 122.975.  This change is taking place to allow for better communications at the Rochelle Municipal Airport.  122.800 is the most common frequency in the nation and on nice days the chatter is overwhelming. This change is to allow better communication between all aircraft that operate out of and through the Rochelle area.  A NOTAM has been published noting this change and will stay in effect until all publications are changed.  Also, a note will be up and running on the AWOS frequency 125.20 until completely published.   Please pass this information on to all your flying friends.   If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks, Mark Delhotal Rochelle Municipal Airport Manager 1201 W. Gurler Rd. Fwd: flying kites

Well liking things that fly or piloting or blues skies or maybe just the answer to "go fly a kite". Peter Zabriskie EAA470533 Sonerai II-L peter_zabriskie@yahoo.com Prayer does not use up artificial energy, doesn't burn up any fossil fuel, doesn't pollute. Neither does song, neither does love, neither does the dance. Margaret Mead   _______     The man flying the 3 kites is in his 80s, and he's from  Canada . He goes to the Washington State International Kite Festival every year. He normally flies with his shirt off. He is deaf, so when he flies the audience holds their hands up and wave them to applaud. He flies 2 kites with his hands and the 3rd kites is attached to his waist. W

Fwd: 3 years already for Avialogs.com !

2013, three years already for Avialogs ! 3 years already and so many projects to do ... Our new website is already on-line and will be further updated in the  following months. There are still a few bugs and section headings to perfect, but all the  contents are available. 6,500 documents and a thousand photos. Whilst the work is done by three volunteers, the server hosting (1 main, 1  backup and 2 TB of hard disk space) isn't free.  A document scanner is also under construction  but cannot be completed without funds (comprising two digital cameras  and remote control software).  Purchasing new documents is also expensive  and is currently done with personal funds. This project has so far had quite some success, establishing links with  several organisations in Canada, U SA and soon into Europe. Today, only about 10% of the users support the project financially.  If you are  one of this minority, then our sincere thanks to you for your help, which  enables us to p

Fwd: MOTORS smalleest and small...

Image
this would change the meaning of the term  "a small engine repair shop"            HN   SMALLEST PETROL ENGINE SCIENTISTS have built the smallest petrol engine, tiny enough to power a WATCH. The mini-motor, which runs for two years on a single squirt of lighter fuel, is set to revolutionize world technology. It produces 700 times more energy than a conventional battery despite being less than a centimeter long (Not even half an inch!). It could be used to operate laptops and mobile phones for months doing away with the need for recharging. Experts believe it could be phasing out batteries in such items within just six years. The engine, minute enough to be balanced on a fingertip, has been produced by engineers at the University of Birmingham . Dr Kyle Jiang, lead investigator from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, said: "We are looking at an industrial revolution happ
